What should I bring with me when I come to the Shelter?
It's a good idea to plan ahead if you think you might need Shelter services, and to speak with one of our counselors about safety planning.
You may even want to pack a bag and keep it in a safe location away from your home, such as with a friend. Keep a change of clothes, basic toiletries, photocopies of your ID and important paperwork like bank statements, extra medication, and extra keys in case of emergency.
When you come to the Shelter, you should try to bring:
-
- Identification: Driver's License, credit cards, birth certificates for yourself and children, marriage certificate, passport, social insurance card,
- Medication
- Bank card and bank statements, mortgage or lease papers, insurance documents, wills, investment documents
- Your Care Card and medical records
- Emergency cash
- Pay stubs
- Keys to your house, car, office
- Your address book and emergency phone numbers
- Small items of sentimental value (jewelry and family photos)
- Children's favorite toys or blankets
- Recent household bills
