If you are a child or youth who wants to take a stand against abuse, there is a lot you can do to make a difference!

It's a really good idea to contact the Kelowna Women's Shelter before you do start a project to help our organization. That way, we can give you information about our work and we are able to answer questions from the community about your project. You can contact us at 250-763-1040 or by e-mailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Here are some successful ways that young people have helped the clients of the shelter and promoted anti-violence in the past:

  • Raise funds for the Shelter through a car wash, bake sale, lemonade stand or other type of fundraiser
  • Collect donations for the Shelter (but be sure to contact us first so we can tell you what items/quantities are needed!)
  • Have a speaker from the Shelter come out to speak to your class or group about abusive and respectful relationships
  • Do a class project or presentation about abuse to raise awareness in your school
  • Donate baking or fresh fruits and vegetables to the Shelter
  • Instead of having everyone bring presents to a birthday party, have everyone bring a gift that can be given to a child at the Shelter on their birthday or Christmas
  • Join the Kelowna Women's Shelter Facebook group and invite your friends!

We'd love to hear your ideas! It's wonderful to see young people in our community supporting the work of the Shelter. You can contact our Community Awareness Coordinator by calling 250-763-1040 or by e-mailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

The Little Helping Hands raised money through a lemonade stand to help kids at the Shelter.
